Long form improvisation class

All it takes to make a class with me is at least four people who want to play, grow and explore!

I have over thirty years experience teaching acting and improvisation. I’m fancy too - I have an MFA from the Yale School of Drama! In addition to teaching improv, I was the Artistic Director of the Bright Invention Ensemble for ten years, developing, directing and performing innovative long form improv. What is this “long form improv”, you ask? It’s theatrical improvisation that is more interested in deep relationships between characters, narrative stories that expand over time, and scenes that are funny but don’t have to be. My classes explore these themes, and always end with an opportunity to share our work with an audience. Class will include:

  • check-in and voice/body warm up.

  • fun games in groups and pairs meant to focus attention, improve listening and observation, and build confidence and trust.

  • basic improv vocabulary and technique, including scene starts, strong offers and building a platform with your partner.

  • exploration of various long forms, including the Harold, Armando, La Ronde and open formats.
